TeraWulf Webinar: Featured Guests,How to Watch, and More

TeraWulf is hosting a webinar the day before their project makes appeals at the Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting. Special guests include the authors of the assessment on the data center (Sarah Kreps and Christopher Earles), as well as Michael B. Mager from Couch White LLP, an attorney who specializes in energy. This webinar is exclusive to Lansing residents and they request questions are asked in advance.

By excluding non-Lansing residents, TeraWulf is once again pushing a narrative that this data center won’t impact the entire region. This project will impact all of Cayuga Lake and we discourage their exclusivity in their webinar guest list. We’re concerned that TeraWulf is asking for questions in advance in order to avoid the real concerns of the community. It’s unclear if any impromptu questions will be permitted, the chat may be disabled.

About Michael B. Mager from Couch White LLP

  • Mager works on energy-related cases on the side of large energy consumers similar to corporations like TeraWulf.

  • Couch White LLP represents Multiple Intervenors, an association of large industrial, commercial and institutional energy consumers.

  • Mager specializes in topics such as disputes with energy service providers, the development of wholesale electricity market rules, and procurement of competitively-priced electricity and natural gas supplies.

Sarah Kreps and Christopher Earles

  • They’re the team that were hired to do an independent study of the data center and its impacts.

  • Both are members of Cornell Tech Policy Institute, which is partnered with TeraWulf on this data center.

  • Earles’ research is focused on large-scale computational modeling. Kreps specializes in foreign policy, international politics, and drones.

  • Read more about why we feel this team was not a good fit for an independent study in our 11/30 post.

How to Attend

TeraWulf has a registration link where you can sign up. If you’d like to attend, see here.

They ask for questions to be submitted through their website.

Even though they are hosting this exclusively for Lansing residents, we’re not sure if TeraWulf will be verifying residency. We presume those who state they aren’t from Lansing will be excluded (“City” is a required field on the sign up form).

With each presentation they give, TeraWulf is excluding more people from the conversation. They’re increasingly pushing a false narrative that people living outside of Lansing are “outsiders” who should not be concerned about this project. Please stay engaged and involved no matter where on the lake you reside.

We expect that this meeting will be a continuation of their PR campaign, a biased presentation about how they’re crucial for our community and how much better Lansing will be with their business in the area. We will post updates about the meeting after it happens.
