Planning Board Meeting Recap (February 23rd, 2026)

Summary

TeraWulf representatives presented their AI data center project to the Town Planning Board. They did not present a formal plan to the board, but provided an informal introduction, and plan to conduct a formal presentation to the Board in April.

No public comment was permitted at the meeting but board members had around 1 hour of questions for the reps

Key Moments

Four County Legislators attended the meeting. It’s reassuring to see they are watching developments here closely.

The Town intends to hire consultants to address specific issues such as noise and energy. TeraWulf will be required to pay for these consultants, but it is not clear who will select them. One board member suggested that Cayuga Operating Company subdivide the parcel due to concerns/confusion about the number of proposed projects on the site (proposed AI data center, proposed state funded solar farm, coal ash pit, former power plant buildings).

TeraWulf will be subject to NYSEG Service Classification No. 7 (SC-7) (typically for large, high-voltage non-residential customers) electric rates. TeraWulf did not confirm or deny whether they would pursue PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes), a program where industrial or commercial property is exempt from property taxes.

“We’re not at this time saying yes or no to a PILOT”
— Jerry Goodenough, TeraWulf VP of Project Management

Next Steps

TeraWulf will have one monthly meeting with the Planning Board for the foreseeable future. It’s important for the community to show up to meetings; both to encourage the board to vote on holding public comment and to show that we are still paying attention.

Call your representatives to urge them to sign onto the state-wide data center moratorium bill. We will post more about this soon! Stay tuned for future posts about all upcoming meetings regarding TeraWulf’s project.
