Call Governor Hochul: Tell her to sign the Data Center Moratorium Bill!
Data center moratorium bill passed Senate and Assembly! Now it will be sent to Governor Hochul. Tell her to sign the bill!
Summary of the Bill
One year moratorium on data centers over 20 MW.
DEC and other state departments would be required to prepare an environmental impact report on data centers within 18 months.
Data center applicants must hold at least one in-person hearing in the community that will address detailed explanations for water use, energy system impacts, local economic impacts, and the efforts they will make to reduce any negative impacts to the host community and its environment that the large data center may cause.
Call Governor Hochul
(518) 474-8390
Tell the staff your name and zip code, that you are asking her to sign the bill for a data center moratorium AND ask for it to be extended to 18 months to coincide with the required DEC report timeline.
What this means for TeraWulf in Lansing
The moratorium would not apply to “the modification, renewal, re-issuance, or recertification of any previously issued permit, certificate, registration, license, or other form of approval; or large data centers commencing construction on or before the effective date of this section”
Since TeraWulf has not submitted any formal plans for their data center and has not received any permits, these bills could halt them for one year!
