A Recap of Lansing’s April 27th Planning Board Meeting

TeraWulf Presented Their Site Plan Review

Planning Board members and town staff agreed that their application was not complete. Members of the planning board and staff had many questions for the TeraWulf representatives. TeraWulf will now work on clarifying these answers and will be at a future planning board meeting.

Public Comments Are Being Recorded

Town staff members are collecting written comments and adding them to a shared folder for the Planning Board to view. You can send a written comment at any time at: www.lansingtownny.gov/contact (Request that your comment be shared with the Planning Board)

Advice For Making a Comment

The Planning Board chairperson, Dean Shea, encouraged the public when writing comments to emphasize what you are concerned about specifically. Comments that simply say “No data center!” are not helpful or effective for the Planning Board.

You can mention your concerns about blasting into bedrock to level the land, noise concerns, increased traffic during construction, environmental concerns, light pollution, etc.

Public Hearings

There will be at least 2 public hearings at planning board meetings, according to town staff. One during the environmental review (SEQR) process and one for the full project. According to §274-A of NY Open Legislation Laws, the Planning Board will have 62 days after the full project public hearing to make a decision.

Future Meetings

At this meeting it was announced at the beginning that holding protest signs was not permitted. It’s been reported this decision was due to a large sign towards the front of the room which blocked the view of attendees and was distracting. We are hoping for more clarity at the next meeting about this rule and if it will be the precedent for all future meetings.
